Finishing the Year Strong….with just Four Simple Goals

Holidays / Self-Improvement
Finish The Year Strong

Here’s what I’m doing…..

That was fast….

This year is almost over…..

I like the idea of finishing this year on a high note and riding that momentum into the new year. (Insert “Giddy-Up” here!)

While I was pondering some seasonal goals, I stumbled upon this idea of 4 simple goals to end the year (courtesy of Elsie at The Beautiful Mess.)

Before I knew it, I was banging out my own little list of goals to close out the year…..

Why is the “4 simple goals” idea so brilliant?

You can finish the year on a high note even if you abandoned, failed or forgot your New Year’s Resolutions

I’m not a big fan of New Year’s Resolutions. Earlier this year, I took a metaphorical chainsaw to the concept of New Year’s Resolutions. Call me picky, but I like my goals short-term, fun, seasonably appropriate and on my schedule.

Four simple goals in two months is doable, very doable….and achieving them will have you feeling accomplished as you sing auld lang syne.

So with the holidays coming up, I want to be happy, healthy and relaxed while reveling in all the “peace, love & joy” and ringing in the new year. The “4 simple goals” are my plan to counter the holiday-induced busyness and stress.

And of course….

Every good goal has a reward.

Who doesn’t need a little something, something for motivation?

Here are the rewards I’m working toward:

    • When I take on the world one hour earlier each morning (Operation Rise & Shine, anyone?), I’m start the day off with a hot steaming cup of Cafe Caramel or Cafe Mocha.
    • When I cook a “real” meal at home, we’re going to celebrate with dessert aperitifs courtesy of a $150 bottle of port from our wedding almost two years ago.
    • If I wear my Fitbit Flex & track my steps, I’ll be rocking some stylish new yoga pants.
    • And, if I drink 32 ozs. of water a day, I’ll be getting a Gorilla tripod to take my iphonography to a new level.

  1. Stacey, I love your attitude and insight into motivation! Positive reinforcement, baby! I may have to adopt your rewards for my own goals- wonderful coffee, port, new clothes and new photography equipment would certainly encourage me toward improvement! 🙂

  5. Thanks for the comment you left on my What I Love About Fall post. I have many of those same goals as you, especially drinking more water, I’m so bad at that.

  6. Never thought about this, I like it! I think we focus so much on kicking the new year off right that we forget about closing it out on a high note. Funny, I was just looking at a Fitbit today, thinking it’s gonna be my birthday or Christmas gift this year. Gonna make my list this weekend, thanks!

  9. What a great way to end the year, with 4 simple goals. I’ll have to think of what mine will be. I’m not a big fan of resolutions either.

  12. I need one early early night each week, and the other nights to be consistent. More sleep more sleep. Oh and I want a gorilla tripod too.
    Good luck.

  13. I like this idea too. Less pressure on making a huge change on the first of January. Instead, you’re just continuing good habits. And it doesn’t hurt to go through the holidays walking more, getting more sleep and drinking more water.
